Märki AG Innenausbau is an innovative, third-generation family business based in Gränichen. Its modern carpentry workshop employs around 40 people. The company specializes in high-quality interior fittings, from doors and built-in cupboards to complete kitchens. Märki AG Innenausbau relies on several vacuum handling systems from Swiss crane manufacturer GIS for its production. The latest addition is a GIS turning device with crane system, which has been in use at the workplace for the production of door elements since the end of 2025.
Easy and safe turning of panels
The new vacuum device, called GHK, is equipped with a turning function. A single person can use it to ergonomically and efficiently move loads weighing up to 200 kg with a smooth, airtight surface, mainly wooden panels, and position them for the next production step. The wooden elements are lifted from the stack with the vacuum lifter, turned 180°, and gently placed on work blocks. This positions them optimally for processing the reverse side. Once the work step is complete, the workpiece is picked up again by the turning device, moved into the desired position, and set down for temporary storage. The device used at Märki AG Innenausbau has proven to be a flexible and powerful work aid. The suction process is based on a physical principle: removing the air between the suction surface and the wooden panel creates a vacuum. The resulting pressure difference ensures that the transported material adheres securely to the suction plates during the lifting process. The suction surfaces are adapted to the workpiece and can be moved by hand so that elements of different dimensions can be transported reliably.
Perfectly integrated crane system
The GISKB overhead crane enables comprehensive material handling around the workplace. The crane system is adapted to the structural conditions of the factory building. It is attached to the side of the wooden building beams. Height differences caused by the sloping roof are compensated for by spaced suspensions. Both the crane girder built up between the crane runways and the space-saving GIS electric chain hoist integrated as a lifting unit help to maximize the available lifting height, leaving enough space to handle the large, bulky wooden panels.
Easy operation
All functions of the vacuum lifter, including the turning function, can be controlled via a central control unit. Electric crane and trolley travel could also be easily integrated into the control system. At Märki AG Innenausbau, however, the crane bridge and electric chain hoist are moved manually. Thanks to the smooth-running trolleys in the hollow profiles of the crane system, this can be done with minimal effort.
