The 3-storey atrium of the Volkiland shopping mall in Volketswil has been fitted with a modern lighting system in November 2020. 298 lights and 47 downlights, supplied by BestLight AG, provide atmospheric lighting that can be quickly and easily adapted to the season or the theme event. The lights are distributed over 7 sectors and each of them is attached to a steel frame held by 3 to 4 GIS electric chain hoists. In advance, an engineer calculated the dimensioning of the sector support structures, as well as their statics to define the suspension points.
Once the suspensions were mounted to the ceiling, the company rubi - audio operating began with the installation on September 24th, 2020. Firstly, all 26 LP500 GIS electric chain hoists in D8Plus execution, each of them with a load capacity of 500 kg, were fixed and connected to the control system. Each section can be controlled as an independent group unit and lowered for cleaning or replacing defective lights. A D8Plus solution with a 2nd brake and an 8-fold chain safety factor of is absolutely necessary for this application since the individual sectors are suspended above people which requires additional safety precautions.
After the steel frame had been attached to the electric chain hoists, the individual lights were installed and wired. Taking all safety and corona measures in account, the assembly took a total of 6 labour assignments, which were carried out exclusively on weekends and night shifts on weekdays. The commissioning of the completed lighting system was on November 12th, 2020.
We would like to thank all of the companies involved, especially Michael Rubi from rubi - audio operation, for the pleasant cooperation. It led to a great result.
